Just realized PayPal's currency conversion is costing me more than I thought

I did a small $150 job for a client in Canada last week and PayPal charged me $6.75 just to convert the currency. That's over 4% right off the top. I checked my bank's rate and it would have been about $3.20 instead. Has anyone else compared what Wise or a direct bank transfer would save on these little international payments?

Dude for real, just last week I tried to book a hotel room online and the price they showed was like $120 a night but by the time I got to checkout it was almost $200 with all the resort fees and "destination fees" and random taxes they didn't list upfront. Then I tried to pay for parking at the garage and my credit card got hit with a $2 "convenience fee" for using a card, like bro it's 2024 how is accepting a card still a hassle. It's honestly exhausting having to triple check every single thing you buy.
