A client told me my fonts looked 'too professional'

A bakery owner said my headers looked like a law firm's menu, so I switched to a hand-drawn style font and started using comic sans for their logo instead. Has anyone else had a client reject something for being 'too good' for their brand vibe?

Comic Sans for a bakery logo? Did they actually approve that?

@the_ben right, like who looked at that font and said "yep that's the warm, homemade vibe we're going for"... it's literally the font your elementary school teacher used for class newsletters. whole bakery probably looks like a popup ad for a free recipe website from 2004. i half expect the cupcakes to have clip art sprinkles on them.

Not gonna lie, I actually think Comic Sans worked for that bakery... it's playful and casual, which fits a place selling cupcakes with sprinkles. "Warm, homemade vibe" is exactly what a bakery should be going for, and Comic Sans screams "I'm not trying too hard" better than a fancy script font. Maybe the logo looks like a 2004 recipe site, but that unpolished charm is what makes people feel like they're getting real baked goods instead of something mass produced.
