That time a veteran freelancer told me my invoices looked like ransom notes
She said drop the 3 different fonts and stop using bold for every single line, so I stripped it to plain text and a single table, and now I actually get paid without 5 follow up emails, has anyone else had to totally redo how they present invoices?

Six fonts on one business card? That just hurts my brain to even picture. I'm with @faith27 on this though - if they're paying full price without complaint, you did your job. But man, I've seen some wild invoice designs from new freelancers and it always makes me wonder how they ever got paid before. Plain text and a single table is the way to go, that's basically what I've been using for years and it works.

Three fonts sounds excessive but honestly who cares what it looks like if they pay.

RIGHT? Three fonts is NOTHING. I had a client once who wanted SIX different fonts on one business card. SIX. I tried to talk them out of it but they were dead set. In the end it looked like a ransom note but hey, they paid me full price without a single complaint. That money spent just the same as a clean minimalist design. If the check clears I will design a rainbow clown vomit layout if that's what they want.
