TIL my scanner app had a document merge feature the whole time
I used to manually stitch together PDF pages in Preview for client contracts. Took like 10 minutes per file. Then last Tuesday I was rushing to send a 14 page agreement and accidentally hit the wrong button in Adobe Scan. It merged the whole thing in 2 seconds. I felt pretty dumb but it saved me probably 6 hours total this year. Anyone else have a feature hiding in plain sight in a tool they use daily?

Accidentally discovered it after 6 years of doing it the hard way. Classic me, always finding the EFFICIENT way right after I finish the painful way.

That "finding the efficient way after the painful way" thing you mentioned, that hits close to home. It's like life has this weird sense of humor where you have to go through the whole messy process first before the shortcut reveals itself. I've noticed the same pattern with stuff like organizing a garage or learning a new skill on the job - you spend years doing it the clunky way and then suddenly stumble onto a trick that makes you wonder why nobody told you sooner. Makes me think we're all just running small experiments every day, finding the hard way first.

Man, that's too real. I gotta ask you @river_thompson - what's the one thing you wish you'd figured out way earlier that you only stumbled on after years of doing it the hard way? For me it was learning to just stop and look at the whole mess before diving in, but it took me forever to even think to do that. It's weird how we all seem to learn the backwards way first, like our brains have to break it down the messy way before the shortcut clicks.
