Tried that $50 mic arm from Amazon and my voice recordings got way worse somehow

I picked up this cheap mic arm last week because my old one kept sagging, but now my condenser mic picks up every little desk vibration... I thought that was just a problem with expensive gear, not the arm itself. Turns out the clamp design just transfers sound from the desk straight into the mic. Has anyone else run into this issue with the cheaper arms or am I doing something wrong?

Yeah thats just the cheap clamp design. Get a shock mount it helps a ton.

Shock mounts are definitely a step up but the real fix is swapping that plastic clip for a metal one if you can find it. Those cheap clips get micro cracks after a few months and start slipping no matter how tight you go. The band itself on those budget mics is usually fine, its the mounting hardware that fails first.

Wait, are you telling me those cheap plastic clips actually develop micro cracks after a few months? I just bought mine last week and now I'm worried I wasted my money already. @ray_burns mentioned getting a shock mount but I didn't think the clamp itself would fail that fast. I figured the arm swinging around would be the main issue, not the hardware holding the mic. That's wild that the band itself is fine but the cheap clips break down before anything else. I guess I should have saved up for a sturdier mount instead of trying to cut corners on this one.
