Coworking space on Queen West kicked me out for taking too many calls

I was at the Workhaus on Spadina last Thursday, on a 20 minute zoom with a client about a $200 revision, and the manager came over and told me to 'take it outside' because my voice was disturbing people. Fine, I get the rule, but now I just book meeting rooms at the library for $0 instead of paying $300 a month for a hot desk. Anyone else ran into this nickel-and-dime attitude from coworking spots downtown?

Wait, you're actually surprised they asked you to take a 20 minute call in an open coworking space? I get that it sucks to pay for a desk and still feel kicked out, but those spots are literally designed for quiet work. The whole point is that people pay a premium to not have to listen to other people's conversations. Libraries are a solid alternative for sure, but coworking spaces have to draw the line somewhere or it turns into a coffee shop. It's not really nickel-and-diming, it's just enforcing basic etiquette so the space stays usable for everyone paying for quiet.

Had a buddy who got a membership at one of those hip coworking spots downtown. He took a 15 minute call with his dentist about a filling appointment, nothing loud or crazy, and got a passive aggressive note slid under his laptop the next time he came in. He said the phone booths were all full and he was literally in the middle of explaining his insurance info when someone at the front desk gave him The Look. @the_rose I think you're right that it keeps the vibe more library like, but it's also a bummer when the whole selling point is flexibility and then you get policed for basic stuff. He ended up just going to a Starbucks after that, which was way less stressful even if the coffee was worse.
