Was dead wrong about using Fiverr for local work until a failed delivery saved me
I was at a coffee shop on Queen West last Tuesday when a client called furious about a rushed Fiverr guy who missed all their brand guidelines. That moment convinced me to stick with Toronto freelancers I can meet in person, even if they charge more. Has anyone else had a bad experience outsourcing to random online gig workers?

Yeah see that's the thing, michael_williams makes a solid point. You can't pay someone twenty bucks and expect them to care about your brand like you do. But the bigger issue is even if you pay more on Fiverr, you're still rolling the dice on whether that person actually understands your business. I've talked to guys who paid five hundred bucks on there and still got generic work that could've been for any company. The problem isn't just the price, it's that they're working off a screen with zero feel for your local market or your client's reputation. When you meet someone face to face, they see how you talk about your work and they pick up on stuff you can't put in a brief. That's worth more than any discount.

Whoa wait, a RUSHED Fiverr guy missed brand guidelines? That's a disaster waiting to happen. Like, how do you miss the whole point of why you were hired in the first place?

Depends how much they paid though. If you hire someone for 20 bucks and give them a half page brief, you kind of get what you pay for. Brand guidelines can be complex and a rushed freelancer barely has time to read them, let alone apply every rule. Maybe the real disaster is expecting top tier work on a budget and a tight deadline.
