That $200 plumbing inspection I thought was a rip-off saved me $2,000
I paid a local plumber $200 to do a camera inspection of my main sewer line after noticing slow drains. He found a big root clog that would have burst within a month and flooded my basement. Has anyone else here had a small inspection fee prevent a much bigger disaster?

My neighbor skipped the camera and paid $4,000 for emergency pipe bursting last spring.

@waderamirez I gotta push back on that one a little... skipping the camera is like driving blind and hoping for the best. That $4,000 fix might have been way cheaper if they'd known what was really going on down there first. A camera inspection is maybe $300 to $500 and can save you from blowing thousands on a guess. Your neighbor got lucky if the pipe burst was the only issue, but that old line "trust the water, not the plumber" doesn't hold up when you're talking about underground pipes. Getting eyes on the problem first is just common sense, even if it feels like an extra cost upfront.

I spent $200 on a camera inspection last year. Found a massive root ball right at the street connection. Plumber said if I'd waited another month the pipe would've collapsed and sewage would've backed up into my basement. So basically I paid $200 to find out I'm not a total idiot with my money. Guess that's a win in my book.
