Told a buddy I didn't need a contract for a small $800 moving job because we'd been friends for years

Ngl he paid me $300, said the rest was coming, then ghosted me for 3 months until I finally had to threaten small claims court to get the other $500, has anyone else had a 'friend' burn them like that?

Been there, write down payment terms on a napkin next time so they can't weasel out.

But tbh even a napkin thing might not hold up if they really wanted to fight it, you need something signed by both of you. Small claims courts like written agreements even if they're super basic and handwritten. Honestly if you're doing any job over like $200 it's worth taking the extra 5 minutes to type something up.
