Visited a new hardware store in Portland last weekend

I stopped by that new Builders Depot off 82nd Ave to grab some drywall screws and noticed they had a whole aisle of spray foam insulation, like 20 different kinds. The guy at the counter said sales have tripled since winter because everyone's trying to seal up drafts themselves. Anyone else see more DIY folks tackling insulation jobs instead of hiring pros?

Huh, I gotta say I see it a little differently. My buddy tried to do his own crawlspace insulation last fall and ended up with a foam mess that actually made his floor buckle from trapped moisture. A lot of those DIY spray foam jobs go wrong when people don't account for ventilation or proper prep work.

Yeah the whole "proper prep work" thing is no joke. I helped a friend redo his attic once and we spent almost as much time cleaning and sealing gaps as we did actually spraying the foam. He bought one of those DIY kits from a big box store and it ended up being way more of a pain than he expected. The foam expanded way more than the instructions said and it pushed some drywall off the walls in the room below. Plus the smell was awful for like a week after. Honestly think those kits should come with a warning label or something, cause a lot of people just think it's like spray painting a wall.

Wonder how long @taylor_wells waited before the drywall started shifting.
