Took 11 years to realize I was quoting 'callout fees' wrong and eating $50 every time
Used to lump travel time into the project price like a dummy, so a 15 minute job an hour away felt like a gift to the client. Then this spring I clocked my actual hours on a 3 stop route and saw I was basically paying to drive. Now I bill a flat $35 trip charge on top of the quote, no exceptions. Has anyone else found a way to make callout fees stick without clients ghosting you right after?

Thats the same trap I almost fell into. Are you charging the flat trip fee before you even leave the shop, or are you rolling it into the final bill and hoping they don't push back?

$220 flat fee before I even load the van. Learned that the hard way after two no-shows last spring.
