Vent: I visited a co-work space in Austin and everyone was obsessed with their portfolio layouts
I stopped by that new co-work spot on 6th Street last week to check it out. Every person I talked to was bragging about how their grid layout or hover effects made them look pro. But I saw three sites that were so cluttered with animations the actual work got buried. Am I the only one who thinks a simple, fast-loading site with clear text beats all that flashy stuff?

Did you check if those sites actually work on mobile?

Hang on, is this really that big of a deal? Mobile works fine most of the time unless you're using some ancient browser or something.

Three of those sites didn't even load right on my phone, just sat there spinning while some fancy animation tried to start. I spent ten years building my own portfolio site and it still looks like it crawled out of 2008, so maybe I'm just jealous of people who can make stuff not look like garbage. My hover effect is my cursor turning into a hand, that's about it.
