Vent: my homepage hero image broke on a Sunday and I fixed it with duct tape and a prayer
Was sitting at my kitchen table in Austin last weekend when I noticed my freelance portfolio banner was just a gray box - must have been a CDN glitch from my cheap hosting. Uploaded a backup pic directly to the server at 2 AM and it finally loaded right, but now I'm wondering if anyone else has had their whole site tank from something as dumb as an image link.

Fixed it with duct tape and a prayer" is basically my entire approach to web development (and, uh, my love life). That gray box panic is real though - I've definitely force-refreshed my own site 47 times hoping the image would just appear out of sheer willpower.

Used to roll my eyes at guys who treated web stuff like a field repair job. Thought you needed a solid plan and clean code or you were just asking for trouble down the road. Then I spent three hours on a Saturday trying to get a client's image gallery to load right on their phone, finally got it working by deleting half the CSS and crossing my fingers. That gray box panic hits different when you've been staring at a broken layout past midnight. Really changed my whole view on the duct tape approach, sometimes you just gotta make it work and move on.
