Changed my mind about ring lights after visiting my sister's studio in Austin

I always thought ring lights were just for influencers and streamers, but I visited my sister's home office setup last weekend in Austin and she showed me how she uses a $40 Neewer ring light for video calls. The difference in how professional and clear her face looked on Zoom was huge, and she said it actually helps her save time because she doesn't have to adjust window blinds or reposition lamps anymore. Now I'm wondering if I should swap my cheap desk lamp for one of these... has anyone else tried using a ring light for regular work calls?

My $15 desk lamp from Target makes me look like I'm filming a hostage video, so yeah, I might be the target audience for this. Does the ring light also make you question every life choice you made in your 20s, or is that just me?

Bought one off Amazon for 22 bucks last week. Now I can see every single wrinkle and gray hair my 30s gave me in 4K resolution. It's like the ring light is personally judging me for all those late nights and cheap beer choices. Honestly makes me feel like I'm doing an apology video for my entire 20s instead of just trying to look decent on Zoom.

Haha yeah, "personally judging me for all those late nights" - that's exactly what mine does too. I put mine on the dimmest setting and it still highlights every single sunburn I got from forgetting sunscreen on beach trips ten years ago. It's brutal. Makes me feel like I'm in an interrogation room being asked to explain why I thought drinking a whole bottle of $7 wine on a Tuesday was a good idea. Did yours come with that weird remote that just makes everything worse somehow?
