Overheard a guy at a co-work space say he puts black trash bags over his windows for soundproofing

I was grabbing coffee last Tuesday at this shared office spot in Denver and this dude was bragging to someone about how he taped black garbage bags over all his windows to block out noise for his Zoom calls. He said it saved him $200 on curtains and did the trick for 6 months now. I get wanting to cut down on distractions, but seriously, it looked like a hoarder setup from the hallway. I told him about these insulated blackout panels I got for $30 each at Lowe's and he just shrugged. Has anyone else run into these no-budget home office hacks that make you cringe?

Maybe the curtain money went to a taxidermy bill instead, and the raccoon look is all that was left over. Could be a design choice where "trash panda chic" is actually the vibe he's going for. If he's comfortable enough to look like that, maybe the curtains were worth every penny for the joy it brings him.
