PSA: Found out a $10 desk lamp was making my Zoom calls look way better than a $200 ring light
Been struggling with bad lighting on video calls for months. Tried one of those big ring lights but it made my face look all shiny and weird. Then I noticed my desk lamp with a white shade was just sitting there. Pointed it at the wall behind my monitor instead of at me. Total game changer. Soft light that bounces back. No glare. No washing out. Has anyone else found a random household item that worked better than expensive gear?

@dakota_miller93 right? I spent 50 bucks on a fancy ring light and ended up shoving a reading lamp behind my monitor like a goblin hiding from the sun. My face looks like an egg now but at least it's a well-lit egg.

Egg lighting is all about diffusion, grab a piece of printer paper to soften that harsh overhead glare.

I used to think expensive gear mattered, but you just totally changed my mind.
