The day my standing desk collapsed during a live call in Phoenix

I was 30 minutes into a client demo, leaning on my cheap standing desk like I always do, and the whole top just gave way. My laptop went crashing onto the floor and the dongle snapped clean off, cutting my video and audio right as they were asking about pricing. That moment convinced me to stop trusting a $89 frame from Amazon and I built my own with butcher block and a $340 adjustable base from a local shop. Has anyone else had gear fail at the worst possible second, what did you swap to that actually holds up?

Whoa, the dongle snapped clean off? That is insane, that's like the universe just deciding your meeting was over. I can't believe it happened right as they asked about pricing, that's the absolute worst possible timing, I would have just stared at the wall for a minute. Building your own with a butcher block top sounds way smarter, those cheap Amazon frames are honestly just a gamble with your laptop. I respect that you didn't just buy another flimsy one and instead made something that can actually take some weight. Did the client ever bring it up again or did they just pretend it never happened?
