A friend's one comment about filler episodes changed my whole viewing habit

My buddy Jeff told me to skip episodes 40 to 43 of that long running show because nothing advances the plot. I ignored him for a month, finally caved last night, and honestly the pacing felt so much better afterward. Has anyone else had a recommendation they fought against but ended up agreeing with?

Episode 178 of that anime I watched for two years taught me the opposite lesson, actually. I used to think filler was a waste of time too, but after skipping one arc my friend swore by, I missed a bunch of inside jokes that made the next season way funnier. So now I only skip when the pacing gets truly brutal, and I've been fine with it.

The "inside jokes" thing is so real though, skipping those made me feel like I was missing half the conversation.
