I got roasted at my local anime club for calling a show "mid" before I finished it
So last Friday I'm at the anime meetup at this cafe in Sacramento, and they do a little thing where everyone shares what they're watching. I'd seen like 6 episodes of a popular shounen and I said it was mid, straight up, in front of maybe 15 people. This guy named Marcus, who I barely know, just goes "finish it or don't rate it" and the whole table laughed. I was kinda mad at first but then I went home and actually binged the rest over the weekend. Turns out episodes 14 through 19 completely flip the story and I ended up loving it. I had to go back the next week and admit I was wrong in front of everyone, which was rough but also funny. Now our whole club has this rule where you can't give a rating until you hit the final episode or drop it on purpose. Has anyone else said a show was trash too early and then had to eat their words? Also what's your cut off for dropping something before you feel okay judging it?
Gave up on a show after 3 episodes and told my buddy it was boring, then he bugged me to keep going and it turned out to be one of my favorites. Now I stick to at least 5 episodes before I say anything bad, unless it's just painful to sit through. Dropping on purpose is fine as long as you actually stopped and not just got distracted.
