I thought the hype around that new show was just noise, but wow

My friend kept telling me to watch 'Frieren' for weeks, saying it was more than just another fantasy anime. I finally gave in and watched the first three episodes last night. The way it handles time and regret is so quiet and real, it completely got me. Has anyone else been surprised by a show they thought would just be okay?

Totally get that. Happens with music too, you skip a song for ages then it hits you at the right moment and you're like, oh.

Wait, so is that what Vinland Saga is actually about? I always thought it was just another action show, but what @lucashenderson said makes it sound way deeper. I might have to check it out now.

My buddy was the same with a show called 'Vinland Saga'. He kept calling it a farming anime as a joke, which made me ignore it for ages. I finally watched it when I was sick and had nothing else to do. The whole second season just wrecked me, the way it was about trying to be peaceful in a violent world. It was nothing like I expected from a show with vikings in it.
