PSA: how the Crunchyroll Expo panel changed my whole take on dubs vs subs

Back at Crunchyroll Expo 2023 in San Jose, I went to this panel with two voice actors. One said dubs let you catch visual details you miss reading subs. The other argued subs keep the original emotion intact. I used to be 100% sub only, but now I watch both depending on the show. For action heavy series like Demon Slayer, the dub lets me notice the animation more. For dialogue driven stuff, I stick with subs. Which side do you land on and does the show genre change your pick?

Yeah same, Demon Slayer dub made me actually see the fight choreography.

My buddy swears the English dub is the only way to watch anime because he can't read subtitles fast enough. He once missed a whole plot twist in Attack on Titan because he was still reading the subs from the previous scene.

Did you find the panel changed your mind more for newer shows versus older ones? Like, I'm curious if OG series from the 90s hit different in sub compared to modern stuff where the dubs actually have decent direction and voice talent.
