Shoutout to the anime ramen shop episode that sent me on a wild ingredient hunt

I saw a character in an anime eat this amazing looking ramen, so I decided to make it myself. The recipe called for a specific type of mushroom I had never heard of before. I went to three different grocery stores asking for it, and the last clerk just stared at me like I was crazy. Now I have a fridge full of weird mushrooms and no idea what to do with them.

Know that feeling all too well. Anime food has a way of making the most ordinary ingredients seem special. Chasing down that one specific item can turn into a real trip. The blank stare from the last clerk is a badge of honor, really. Now you have a fridge full of weird mushrooms. Hope the ramen was worth the hunt.

I spent 45 bucks on three types of dried fish trying to recreate a bowl from Food Wars. @flores.caleb gets it, the hunt is the whole point. The food never tastes like the show, but you learn something weird every time. My pantry is a museum of failed anime recipes now.

Call me crazy, but anime food looks better than it tastes. @flores.caleb, that ramen hunt probably wasn't worth the weird mushrooms. Real food from a store tastes fine without the chase.
