Shoutout to the guy at the con who changed how I talk about anime
At Anime Expo last year, I was arguing about a show's ending and this dude just said 'bro, you're not watching, you're just ranking.' It happened right by the food trucks and totally threw me. How do you keep from getting stuck in that 'critic mode' and just enjoy stuff?

Wait, the food trucks? That's the most random place to have your whole brain rewired. I get stuck in critic mode all the time now, especially with seasonal shows. Maybe I just try to remember why I started watching in the first place, before I knew what a plot hole was. It's hard to turn that part of your brain off once it's on.

The food truck thing is actually a perfect example of how it happens. I was just trying to get a burrito and ended up in a 20 minute talk about three-act structure with a stranger. Honestly, once you notice how stories are built, you can't just unsee it. Every show feels like a math problem now. I miss when a twist could just surprise me without me picking apart the clues they left.

Yo, saw a video where someone said to watch the first episode of anything like you're 12 again. Like, just let the dumb fun happen. You ever try that?
