Showerthought: I used to watch anime alone, now I need a whole group chat
For years, I'd just watch a show by myself and be done. Now, after starting 'Chainsaw Man' last week, I can't watch an episode without immediately jumping into a 50-message debate with my friends about Power's motives. Did streaming and social media just make us all need to talk about everything right away?

Read an article about this, how our brains now treat the chat like a second layer of the story. Makes it hard to just watch a show on its own anymore.

Remember when my friend tried to watch a show without the chat? He lasted one episode before caving and reading 200 messages, like @jenniferhart said, it becomes part of the show. Now he just accepts the group watch is the real deal.

Oh, the group chat is half the show now! I've got a friend who writes these whole essays about the ending music before we even see the opening scene. It's like a second screen you can't turn off.
