That guy on the anime sub told me to skip the filler in Naruto Shippuden

Said I'd save like 80 hours and the canon episodes flowed better without it. I listened, and now I feel like I missed half the inside jokes my friends make about it. Anybody else regret skipping filler?

You said "are inside jokes really that deep" but I think you're missing the MAIN thing about them. Inside jokes aren't deep because of the joke itself, they're deep because they CREATE a SECRET language between people. That shared history and understanding is like a bond that outsiders just can't break into. I've had inside jokes with buddies that lasted YEARS and every time one of us says the punchline it brings back all those memories. It's like having a private club where only you and your friends know the password. So yeah, they might not be deep in a philosophical way but they're deep in how they connect people.

Oh for SURE. Once you've got that shorthand with someone it's like having a whole secret world that nobody else can touch, makes even the dumbest little joke feel HUGE.
