Took me 3 tries and 2 months to figure out why my Fate rewatch felt off
Everyone says watch order doesnt matter for Fate but I rewatched Zero first then UBW and something felt wrong the entire time. Turns out the emotional payoff in UBW hits way harder if you go UBW first, took me rewatching the Rin scene in episode 24 three separate times before it clicked. I burned almost 6 weeks going back and forth on forums in the Fate subreddit before one guy just said 'you watched the prequel first dummy' and that was it. Anyone else think the Zero first crowd is just wrong on this?
Oh wow, yeah, this topic has been beaten to death and I still see people get it wrong. I read a pretty long post on the Fate sub once that broke down how Zero assumes you already know how UBW and the other routes end, so starting there spoils a bunch of reveals you're supposed to earn. The whole point of Zero is watching Kiritsugu fail after you already know what his kid ends up doing with the same messed up ideal. If you flip it, UBW just feels like a letdown because you already saw the darker version of everything first. So yeah, the Zero first crowd is loud but they're playing themselves, the intended order exists for a reason.
