Was binging One Piece wrong for 300 episodes...
I always watched subbed because everyone said subs are the only way to get the real experience. But last week I caught a clip of the English dub on YouTube and realized I missed so many little background jokes and character moments because I was busy reading. My buddy told me he's watched the whole show dubbed and still loves it. Now I'm wondering if I should switch or if it's too late after 300 episodes. Anyone else go through this debate?

My brother switched to dubbed at episode 400 and never looked back.

Honestly I'm right there with you both. I held out subbed until episode 350 something and then gave the dub a shot during a rewatch. Completely changed how much I enjoyed the show. Like you said the pacing is way better because you're not reading the whole time. I noticed so many small details in the animation and background characters that I literally missed the first time around because my eyes were stuck on the bottom of the screen. The voice actors are solid too once you adjust for like an episode or two. Anyone who says you have to start from episode one dubbed is lying, I jumped in mid-series and it felt natural pretty quick.

Yeah so your buddy is 100% right on this. I watched the first 200 episodes subbed and switched for a test run one weekend. Never went back. The pacing is way better dubbed because you can actually look at the animation instead of your eyes darting down to subtitles every two seconds. You catch so much more of the background gags and character reactions. I actually laughed more at the comedy arcs after switching because I wasn't struggling to keep up with reading. It's definitely not too late at episode 300. Most dubs only take a few minutes to get used to the voices and then you're good.
