Watched 12 episodes of a show before realizing I had the seasons in reverse order

I was really into this mecha anime last month (the one with the blue-haired pilot). Everything seemed fine until episode 8 when characters kept talking about events I never saw happen. Thought it was just bad writing. Then my buddy came over and was like "dude, you started on season 3." Felt pretty dumb. Has anyone else accidentally watched an entire arc out of order and only caught it way later?

Sat through all of season 2 of that cooking competition show wondering why everyone kept talking about a trophy that was never shown. Turns out season 1 had the actual big award ceremony and I was just watching the aftermath like a lost puppy. My boyfriend finally asked why I kept complaining about "the missing chef drama" and I had to admit I thought the red team was just really bad at reading recipes.

Three episodes in I kept yelling "why is nobody congratulating the green apron crew" and my partner had to pause the show to explain that no, the gold stars on their aprons didn't mean they were "special bakers". I was convinced the whole second season was just a really long flashback episode. The worst part is I spent twenty minutes googling "why does the red team keep burning garlic" when the answer was literally "they already won last year". My boyfriend still brings up how I tried to defend my theory that the judges were secretly punishing the blue team for a past crime.

I mean @nora_webb51, is it really that big of a deal? Just watch season 1 and move on.
