Why does nobody talk about how many anime episodes are lost media?

I found a list on a fan wiki that said over 100 early episodes from the 60s and 70s are just gone, which really surprised me. Has anyone else looked into this or found a specific lost show they wish they could see?

Check with local TV station archives, they sometimes have old reels in storage... @ninar68 is right, it's a real shame.

Yeah "it's heartbreaking" for sure. My buddy Dave found out his grandpa was a local weatherman on a station in Ohio back in the 60s, and he tried to track down old footage for a family reunion. Apparently the station had a policy where they'd tape over the weather segments after a week to save money on reels. So all that's left is a couple of newspaper clippings and a grainy photo. Totally sucks.

The number is actually way higher than 100, it's in the thousands. A lot of early TV was just taped over or thrown out.
