A tech in Dallas told me to stop replacing whole washer pumps and just swap the $12 seal kit
He said it over the phone while I was about to charge a lady $180 for a pump I didn't need, and now I keep three seal kits in the van and my callback rate on those jobs has basically gone to zero, so is anyone else doing kit repairs on drain pumps or am I the last one to figure this out?
This is the same thing that happens with car repairs all the time. My buddy got quoted $900 for new struts and the shop just needed to swap the bushings for like $40 in parts. Nobody wants to fix stuff anymore, they just want to throw new parts at it because it's faster and they can charge more. Same deal with faucets at home, people replace the whole thing when a $5 cartridge would do it. Once you learn the small fix, you can't unsee how often it's the right call, lol.
