Blew $90 on a repair part that was fine the whole time
Last week I replaced a main control board on a Whirlpool fridge because the compressor wasn't starting. I was so sure it was the board since it was throwing a specific error code. Turned out the wiring harness had a loose pin that I overlooked during my first check. Cost me $90 for the board and three hours of my afternoon. Anyone else thrown money at a part only to find it was a simple connection issue?

Oh man, this is me every single time I touch an appliance lol. I once spent $120 on a new ice maker for my freezer, tore the whole thing apart, and then realized I just had to push a little plastic tab back into place. Took me like 5 minutes after three hours of cussing. At least now I have a backup board sitting in my garage waiting for the next time I guess wrong. I swear I could fund a vacation with all the "just in case" parts I've hoarded that were fine the whole time.

Ugh the "just in case" parts pile is so real. I've got a box of random fuses and switches in my basement that will probably outlive me. But seriously, the amount of time we spend cussing at stuff that ends up being some stupid little tab or clip is insane. At least you saved the old board though, that's smart. My garage is just a graveyard of good intentions and broken dreams at this point.

Gotta disagree a bit, I mean sometimes the error codes are legit and that board might've had a hairline crack or something that woulda failed later anyway. Idk, I've been burned the other way too where I ignored the code and paid for it later.
