Can we talk about ice makers that stop working after 2 years
I swear every Samsung fridge I touch has the ice maker fail right around the 24 month mark. The auger motor strips out because the plastic gears can't handle the torque. Anyone got a fix besides replacing the whole assembly every time?

Nah, two years is plenty of life for a cheap plastic ice maker.

Read a study a while back that said most cheap countertop ice makers burn out around the 18 month mark if you use them daily. The compressor just isn't built for that kind of constant work, they put in the smallest one they can find. Two years is actually pretty decent for one of those, most people I know got maybe a year and a half before the ice got half sized and slushy.

Used to think two years was totally fine for an ice maker too, honestly. Then my buddy's cheap countertop one died at 14 months and I figured that's just how it goes. But seeing these Samsung fridge failures all at the same 24 month mark really changed my mind. It's not about the ice maker being "good enough" for two years, it's about them engineering it to fail right after the warranty ends. Makes you wonder if they're intentionally putting in cheap plastic parts to force you to buy a whole new assembly every time.
