Finally fixed a Fridgidaire ice maker that had me stumped for 3 weeks in Cleveland

Honestly, I was about to order a whole new control board for this ice maker. Turned out the water inlet valve was just partially clogged with sediment, not fully dead. I took it apart, cleaned the screen with a toothbrush, and it's been making ice perfect for 5 days straight now. Has anyone else had a partial clog act like a bad board like that?

Man you nailed it with the voltage check idea. I actually did test voltage when the ice maker was calling for water, and it was solid 120V at the valve. That's what made me think it had to be a valve issue, not the board. The water was trickling so slowly that it barely filled the mold, and then the machine thought it was full and just gave up making ice. A board would have given me different symptoms for sure.

I guess my electrical troubleshooting skills are only good enough to confirm the valve is bad, not fix it...

Respectfully, a partially clogged screen usually gives you slow ice or smaller cubes, not the full no ice or jammed up errors that point to a bad board. I've seen a bad solder joint on the board cause random freezing cycles that looked just like a valve issue. Did you check the voltage at the valve when it was calling for water? That would tell you for sure if it's the board or the valve next time.
