I used to think all those new fridge circuit boards were just junk until a 2018 Samsung

The tech support guy from the manufacturer walked me through a firmware update over the phone, which actually fixed the weird door alarm. Ever since then, I check for software patches before I even crack the case open. Anyone else getting more of these 'fix it with a USB stick' calls lately?

My experience is these updates often cause more problems than they fix.

Yeah that "fix it with a USB stick" thing is real. My neighbor's LG washer was throwing a sensor error last month. Found the update file on their support site, loaded it onto a flash drive, and plugged it right into the front port. Cleared the code in like two minutes, saved him a service call.

That's a lucky break for sure, but honestly feels like a band-aid fix. My Samsung fridge had a similar USB update option for a door alarm glitch, and it just made the whole display screen freeze up a week later. Sometimes the new software just isn't tested right.
