Swapped out old dryer belts for a higher end brand and it actually made a difference

Last month I was working on a Whirlpool dryer in a house near Denver. The belt snapped after just 8 months and the customer was pretty mad. I switched to a name brand belt I used to skip because it cost $6 more. Now I only use those after seeing the cheap ones fray way too fast. Anyone else notice a big difference with certain parts brands or am I just lucky so far?

So have you ever had a belt that was still spinning but just looked wrong? I swapped a belt on a old Kenmore once and the cheap one had these fuzzy edges after a few loads. It was like it was slowly coming apart from the inside out. The name brand ones I started using after that are still holding up two years later in my own basement. Customer paid $12 more but she hasn't called me back since. That's the real test right there.

My buddy swears by the same thing. He put a cheap belt in his mom's dryer and it started squeaking after like three months. The weird part was it wasn't even broken yet just making this awful noise. He swapped it out for a better brand and it's been silent ever since. Kinda makes you wonder what corners they cut on the cheap ones.

Read a repair blog that said cheap belts use lower quality rubber compounds... @angelamurphy your buddy's story backs that up.
