That compressor diagnosis that ate my whole Saturday in Modesto
Took a no-cool call on a 5 year old fridge last month. Checked the start relay, run cap, even the overload, all tested fine. The compressor was pulling normal amps on the meter but just wouldn't kick over. I swapped the relay anyway after 3 hours and it fired right up. Turns out the thermal overload inside the relay was intermittent, only acted up when it got warm. Has anyone else burned that much time on a part that tests good cold?

Carry a heat gun or a hairdryer in the van for that exact reason, warm the relay up before you test it and you'll catch those ghosts every time. Took me two Saturdays like that before I learned my lesson, now that's step one on any no-cool where everything else checks out.
