TIL a faulty door switch on a Whirlpool washer can hide behind a bad lid lock
Spent 4 hours swapping the lock before realizing the switch itself was the real issue. Anyone else get tricked by that one?

Been there... the door switch on those models can fail in a way that sends a bad signal to the lock. It mimics a lock failure perfectly. A multimeter on the switch terminals is the only way to know for sure before you start replacing parts.

Remember my buddy who replaced the whole lock first?

How many times have you seen that happen? I chased a phantom lock problem for a week once. The door switch was just barely making contact, enough to light the dome light but not enough to tell the computer the door was shut. The lock would cycle on and off randomly. Saved a ton of money and time by testing the switch first.

@the_jordan probably felt that pain too, but a failing door switch can also throw intermittent voltage spikes that toast the control board.
