Wish I never bought that $200 refrigerant scale from the big box store

Been using it for 8 months and it drifts by 0.3 ounces every time I set a recovery tank on it, which really messes up my charges on mini splits. Has anyone else had luck with cheaper scales holding calibration or is it worth just coughing up for a Fieldpiece?.

Oh man, you're kidding me. A scale that drifts 0.3 ounces just from putting a tank on it? That's like, worthless for anything precision related. I've had a couple of cheaper scales over the years and they were fine for basic jug weighing but never for actual charging work. Honestly, I feel like you're fighting a losing battle with that thing, especially on mini splits where a few ounces matter so much.

@jennybailey nailed it, cheap scales are just guessing games.

Wow, I'll be honest - I used to think any scale under a hundred bucks was basically the same as the expensive stuff, but you just convinced me otherwise. That 0.3 ounce drift would drive me nuts on mini splits where you're chasing exact charge weights, especially with how sensitive those TXVs are. I'm definitely rethinking my whole "buy cheap, buy twice" attitude after reading this.
