Can't believe how a construction crew wiped out a Mayan pyramid last year
Honestly, I just learned about this from a news article. Tbh, it's wild how a construction crew in Belize used a bulldozer on what they thought was a hill. Ngl, it turned out to be a major Mayan pyramid from like 300 BC. They completely leveled it before anyone could stop them. Archaeologists say it was a key site for understanding the region. Now, all that history is just gone. It really shows how easy it is for things to go wrong in the field.

Imagine being that confident a hill is just a hill. Their survey guy needs a new job.

Read about a Roman fort in England they found the same way. It was just a grassy bump in a farmer's field for ages. Makes you wonder how many other "hills" are hiding history.

Can't believe they bulldozed a Mayan pyramid thinking it was a hill.

Consider how many hills are actually ruins. Remember that Aztec temple they found under a Mexico City supermarket? Things get lost... That pyramid was just a dirt mound after centuries. It's not like they knew what it was. We save some sites and lose others, that's just how it goes. This feels small next to whole cities destroyed in wars.
