Found a 1930s dump pit behind my grandpa's barn in Ohio last week, and the stuff inside says more than any museum label
Three years ago I got into digging old farm dumps, mostly just bottles and rusted junk, but last week I finally cleared the back corner of my grandpa's barn in Wooster and hit a pit he swore was just filled dirt. Pulled out 14 whole milk bottles, a tin of shoe polish with the lid still on, and a clay marble that my mom says was probably his. The weird part is how personal it feels compared to reading about digs in Egypt or Rome, since I know exactly whose hands touched this stuff. Anyone else here dig family land, and did it change how you look at the bigger sites?
