Shoutout to the museum volunteer in Denver who told me pot shards are the real story
I did a volunteer shift sorting finds at a Denver museum last month and got paired with a retired guy who has been doing it for 20 years. I kept setting aside the pretty rim pieces and he stopped me and said the plain body sherds tell you more about daily life than anything with a pattern on it. That hit different because I had been chasing the flashy stuff in my own collection for two years without thinking about it. Now I spend most of my time logging the boring pieces. How do you all decide what is worth cataloging when everything from a dig can't make the cut?
