That week in July where a single shovel uncovered a Roman coin hoard in my field

Honestly, I was just digging a post hole for a fence on my farm near York, UK. First swing hit something solid, thought it was a rock. Pulled out a clump of dirt and saw a silver coin edge. Ended up spending the whole week carefully digging by hand with a trowel. Got about 340 coins total, mostly from the 3rd century. Had to call the local museum after day 2 because I was in over my head. They took over and now I'm waiting on the valuation. Not a bad week for a Tuesday that started with rain. Has anyone else stumbled onto a big find while doing something boring like gardening or building?

Found a medieval brooch fixing a fence post, museum told me to stop digging and they'd handle it!

I found a Roman coin in my garden last spring and they shut my whole project down too.

And it's always the same story, isn't it? You find something neat, and suddenly the government owns your backyard. Feels like you can't even dig a hole for a new fence post without stepping on some piece of history these days. I swear half the town around me has got some old pottery shard or coin buried under their lawn, but nobody talks about it until someone calls the museum. Kinda makes you wonder how much history we're just walking over without even knowing.
