A client's offhand comment about clipper angles changed my whole routine

Last Thursday, a regular said my fades looked 'too perfect, like a sticker' and that threw me off. He mentioned how his old barber in Austin used a looser angle on the guards, so I tried tilting the clipper about 10 degrees more and the blend looked way more natural. Has anyone else had a client say something that made you tweak your technique?

Damn, a sticker? That's wild. I've had clients nitpick about lineups or beard edges, but nobody ever told me my work looked too clean. That's a rare level of detail, man. Tbh, I get what he's saying though. When you chase that mirror-perfect blend, it can start looking fake, like it was printed on. The 10 degree tilt thing makes sense because it lets the hair do more of the work instead of fighting it. Ngl, I'm kinda shook that one comment flipped your whole system. Most people just say "shorter on the sides" and call it a day. You got a client who actually understands the mechanics of fading, that's both a blessing and a curse. Now I'm over here second guessing every fade I've done for the last month. Thanks for that, ha. But seriously, if it makes the blend look more lived in, I might have to try it on my next cut.
