Am I the only one who had a client try to tell ME how to do a fade because he watched 2 videos at 11pm?
So this guy sits in my chair last Tuesday, 6pm slot, and he's already got his phone out before the cape even goes on. He pulls up some kid on YouTube and starts telling me the clippers should go "with the grain" on the sides first, not against it. I've been cutting hair 11 years, 8 of them right here on 4th street, and I just stood there with the comb halfway up his head. He says he timed his last cut at "like 40 minutes" and mine was taking too long at 20. I told him the guard number and the blade angle aren't the same as whatever camera angle he watched. He got quiet for a second, then told me his barber back in Ohio did it faster. I wanted to ask if that Ohio guy was also getting $25 in 2024. Finished him up, he looked in the mirror for a full minute, and then said "that's actually kinda fire." Still don't know if I should charge extra for the lesson or just hand them a mirror and let them go. Any of you got a line you use when a walk-in wants to coach you through their own haircut?
How long before he pulls out a ring light and starts recording his own before and after for the algorithm? Honestly the Ohio barber line is my favorite move, like bro that guy probably cut your hair with a flowbee in his kitchen and charged you 12 bucks. Tbh I just hit em with the "oh word, you wanna hold the clippers for a sec?" and watch them freeze up real quick. Ngl the ones who watch videos never want to actually grab the tools, they just want to feel like they're in charge of something. That "kinda fire" at the end is the part that gets me though, every time, they doubt you the whole cut and then act like they knew it would look good.
