Bought a $200 clipper sharpening kit and wrecked my favorite blades
Saw a deal online for this all-in-one sharpening kit and thought I'd save money doing it myself. Ended up ruining 3 pairs of Wahl blades in one afternoon, including my go-to fade blade I'd had for 4 years. Anyone else fall for the DIY sharpening trap or just me?

Man, I gotta disagree with you here. I've been sharpening my own clipper blades for years with a $60 kit and get great results every time. The key is taking your time and learning the angle before you go at your good blades.

Shane, did you practice on old junk blades first or just go straight to your good ones with that $60 kit? Because I'm guessing the answer makes a big difference in whether you end up with sharp blades or scrap metal. I'm curious what your learning curve actually looked like before you felt confident enough to hit your main gear.

$200 for a clipper sharpening kit sounds like a whole lot more than what Shane is talking about with his $60 one though. You gotta figure most of those cheap kits are just a stone and a guide anyway, not some magic setup that fixes your angle.
