Had a week where every single fade came out perfect... then yesterday I botched three in a row

I'm torn on whether barbering is just a luck game some days or if I'm actually getting worse at reading different hair textures, so what's your take on the good day vs bad day thing?

Read this thing online from some old school barber who said your hands have their own clock that gets thrown off by sleep, diet, even the weather changes. He was saying humidity alone can make hair behave completely different from one day to the next, so it's not your skill that's failing it's the environment fighting you. That clicked for me because I've noticed my worst days always come after a bad night's sleep or when I'm stressed about something totally unrelated to cutting hair. The muscle memory is still there you just gotta figure out what's messing with your feel that day before you blame yourself for the botch.

Man, I used to be the guy who thought it was all about talent and muscle memory. I was sure if you just practiced enough, the good days would always win. But then I had a month where I was killing it nonstop, then suddenly hit a wall and couldn't get a blend right for two days straight. That totally changed my mind. It's not luck exactly, but it's definitely not just skill either. There's something about your hands being off or the hair just fighting you that day. I think you gotta accept some days are gonna be rough no matter what you know.

And I swear some days my own hair is judging my technique from the mirror.
