Had to pick between a $60 clipper and a $200 one last month
My old Wahl Senior finally gave out after 8 years. I stared at the Andis Master and the Wahl Magic Clipper on the shelf for a solid 10 minutes. Went with the cheaper Magic Clip and honestly I'm kicking myself. The motor feels weaker and it's already bogging down on thick hair. Anyone else regret going budget on your main clipper?

Wait, your Magic Clip is already bogging down? I thought those things were supposed to be solid for the price. That's rough man, especially coming from a Wahl Senior. Did you try messing with the blade tension at all?

Ugh, honestly I gotta push back on this a little. I know the Magic Clip is supposed to be this indestructible workhorse but in my experience (and I've owned three of them) the bogging down isn't really a blade tension problem, it's a motor issue. You can mess with the tension all day long and it's not gonna fix a weak motor that just can't handle thick or wet hair. The Wahl Senior is a tank, yes, but people forget the Magic Clip has a smaller pivot motor that really struggles with anything beyond medium hair. It's like comparing a Corolla to a pickup truck - sure, the Corolla is reliable for light stuff but you're not gonna haul lumber with it.

@noahwood brings up a good point about blade tension, but I think theacooper is right on the money here. That smaller motor in the Magic Clip just doesn't have the guts for thick hair, especially compared to a Wahl Senior. It sucks that you spent the money and now have to deal with it bogging down, that's a real letdown.
