I used to scoff at using thinning shears on short hair

A barber in a shop in Austin told me I was leaving too much weight on top and the shape was off, so I tried blending with texture shears on a #2 guard fade. It softened the transition way better than my clipper-over-comb technique ever did. What tricks have you picked up from watching other barbers work?

Heard a barber on a podcast say that thinning shears work better on dry hair for fades since wet hair clumps up and gives you weird lines. Tried it myself and the blend came out way smoother.

Works better on dry hair" is a pretty big claim when wet cutting has been the standard forever. I mean, sure, maybe it helps avoid those clumps, but a good barber should be able to handle wet hair without leaving lines anyway. Feels like overthinking a simple fade to me.
