My clipper blade gave out mid-fade on a Friday rush
I was three heads into a packed evening last Friday when my #1 guard blade started snagging on the second client. It was grabbing hair instead of cutting it, and I had to stop halfway through a skin fade. I finished that cut with my trimmers and a comb, which took twice as long. After closing, I pulled the blade apart, found the drive pin had worn down, and swapped in a fresh one from my backup kit. Has anyone else had a blade fail right in the middle of a busy night, or do I just need to replace my spares more often?
Oh man, that is the worst timing possible. Same thing happened to me a few months back, right at the start of a bachelor party group, four cuts booked back to back. The blade just started chewing up the hair on the second guy, and I had to do the whole fade with my clippers on zero and then clean it up with the trimmer. Took forever and the guy was patient, but I was sweating bullets.
Now I keep two extra blades in my bag, not one, and I also check the drive pin every Sunday when I clean them. That little part is cheap, but it will absolutely ruin your night if it goes. I learned that lesson the hard way, just like you did.
