Overheard a guy in the waiting area say his last barber rushed every fade
I was cleaning up my station between cuts when this dude told his friend how his old barber never took time on the blend, just buzzed through it. Got me thinking how often we might be hurrying through details just to get to the next chair. Anyone else catch themselves rushing and how do you slow it down without losing money?

Olivia's got the right idea with that extra 10 minutes block. I started doing the same thing last fall and it changed my whole workflow - less rushing means fewer mistakes that take even longer to fix later. The tips honestly more than make up for the slower pace, plus my regulars book way more consistent now that they trust the finish.

Last spring I started blocking out an extra 10 minutes per fade and it made a huge difference. I charge a couple bucks more now but clients actually notice the blend is smoother and tip better. It balances out in the long run and I feel less stressed.

My 45 minute slots for fades turned into 55 minutes after I kept having to fix my own rushed blends. I use a trimmer first to set the bottom line, then take my time fading up with the clippers. The extra time lets me check from every angle with a mirror too.
